Emergency Social Services

Overview

Sandhurst Consulting now offers Emergency Social Services (ESS) training for organizations and agencies of all types. We have worked with field experts in ESS to develop a broad range of courses that will benefit municipalities, companies, personnel and ultimately, the communities impacted by a disaster or emergency. Our training uses Alberta-specific frameworks, examples, and legislation, and are facilitated by leading ESS experts in Alberta.

In Alberta, Emergency Social Services (ESS) are generally provided within municipalities, however, in the past 20 years there have been few resources dedicated to the training and professionalization of ESS personnel. Our courses have been designed to take a “people centered approach” to ensure that your staff are ready to respond to any emergency.

What are Emergency Social Services?

Depending on the specific nature of the emergency, ESS could include:

  • Registration and referral
  • Accommodation/shelter services
  • Family reunification
  • Clothing services
  • Personal services
  • Psychosocial supports
  • Communications
  • Food and water
  • Transportation
  • Special needs
  • Multicultural services
  • Pet care

How prepared is your community to offer these services in an emergency?
