Trevor Rueger

Trevor Rueger is an accomplished and award-winning theatre professional with over 35 years of experience as an actor, director, writer, dramaturg, producer, teacher, and coach. His extensive background hilights a deep commitment to writing, communication, and the development of playwriting and storytelling.
For the past 19 years, Trevor has served as the Executive Director of Alberta Playwrights’ Network, a provincial organization devoted to the development of playwrights at all stages. In this leadership role, he has been instrumental in fulfilling APN’s mission to be a resource for playwrights and to nurture Alberta artists. During his tenure at APN, revenues and membership have doubled speaking to his skills as a leader and an advocate.
In his direct capacity as a writer and dramaturge, he has worked on the development of over 500 new plays and assisted countless playwrights from all over Canada. He was a writer and artistic associate for Shadow Productions for over 20 years and for 10 years was the writer and producer of the annual Betty Mitchell Awards for professional theatre in Calgary. Trevor also shares his expertise in playwriting through courses, offering instruction on the elements of dramatic writing, including dialogue, character, plot, crisis, and structure – all key elements for clear communication, no matter what field you are in.
His career demonstrates a powerful blend of creative writing experience and organizational leadership, consistently focused on fostering new voices and stories for the stage.
Trevor is also a drummer and has played with a number of bands in the city of Calgary. His current project is a cover band called “Hello Penguins”.
