Murray was an Officer in the British Army where he forged his strong leadership, emergency, and people management skills in some of the most demanding environments around the globe. Numerous operations and training exercises have seen him deployed in Europe, the Middle East, Africa & North America where he honed his leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills. He is a certified ICS Canada instructor and specializes in training and Emergency Management. Academically, he holds a Law degree, is a post-graduate level chartered manager and is in the final stages of an MSc (Exec) in Leadership & Strategic studies.

During his military tenure, Murray completed some of the most demanding courses which saw him qualify as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal Operator, and Advanced Army Diver, and a high-threat Search Coordinator. The onerous nature of the training requirements associated with these roles saw him involved in a variety of training environments ranging from technical SME training through to large-scale exercises involving over 1000 people. Murray commanded a multi-national cohort of counter-IED specialists on Operations in the Middle East where he facilitated the life-saving training of the host nation soldiers. At CFB Suffield, he was the Operations Officer of the UK’s largest training area and was responsible for the deployment and training of a 1300-person workforce annually to support the base’s training activity.

Most recently, Murray was the Senior Training Officer in British Forces Cyprus and was responsible for the planning and execution of large-scale Emergency Management training providing operational assurance to the Governor of the Sovereign Base Areas, Cyprus. This role also saw him deliver crisis management training to Senior & Director level staff, instigate interoperability training for the Police & Military armed response and as a senior planner for the UK’s humanitarian assistance in the wake of the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake.

Outside of Emergency Management work, Murray is a keen skier and has instructed numerous alpine skiing courses in Europe and Canada. Though primarily a skier, he is learning to snowboard, continues to play the bagpipes, and hopes to join a competitive Pipe band in Alberta.
