T’was the night before Christmas and Santa was stressed,
His workshop was chaos; it was an operational mess.
The reindeer were restless, the sleigh needed a tune,
And the elves had been running on candy since noon.
He muttered, “Too many cookies, not enough time!”
As elves scrambled past him in chaotic rhyme.
Then all of a sudden Santa shouted, “I’ve got it!”
He dashed to his office and snatched up his toolkit.
With a wink and a grin, he rose to the test.
For Christmas depends on a well-managed ICS!

Santa’s PPOST for Christmas success
PRIORITIES
- Life Safety
- Incident Stabilization
- Environment & Property
PROBLEMS
- Multi-jurisdictional airspace: Santa operates across all jurisdictions, each with unique regulatory frameworks.
- Weather extremes: Arctic-origin cold fronts, icing hazards, TAF changes, and low-visibility chimney approaches.
- Resource constraints: One sleigh, one operator, nine reindeer, and a supply chain dependent on elven production cycles.
- Communications interoperability: Santa’s antique “Ho-Ho-HF Radio” is not P25-compliant. Lack of unified dispatch system for real-time naughty/nice database updates.
- Sustainability and fatigue: 24-hour continuous duty violates every known health and safety regulation in Canada, the US, the EU, and certainly Alberta OHS.
OBJECTIVES
- Deliver 100% of gifts to validated recipients by 23:59 local on 24 Dec, maintaining a 0% misdelivery rate.
- Maintain safe flight operations with no airspace incursions, reindeer injuries, or chimney-related maydays.
- Ensure common operating picture (COP) accuracy by updating Santa’s Naughty & Nice List every 30 minutes.
- Maintain effective communications with North Pole Emergency Operations Centre (NPEOC), NORAD, partner air traffic authorities, and Elven Logistics.

- Contain any cookie-crumb and milk-spill footprint and prevent reindeer waste contamination on rooftops.
- Maintain stellar record of 0 structural damage to chimneys.
- Protect Santa’s reputation as a reliable, low-carbon, cheerful logistics provider.
STRATEGIES
- Activate the NPEOC to support Santa. Mrs. Claus will serve as EOC Director as she is experienced, competent, not afraid to correct scope creep.
- Implement global route optimization by leveraging AI-assisted sleigh routing and real-time weather alerts.
- Deploy staging areas at polar waypoints for feed, water, and reindeer icing checks.
TACTICS
- Sleigh Ops will launch from North Pole at H-0 (0000Z) on 24 Dec. Global time-zone sequencing will be established to maintain efficiency. During early-morning hours high-stealth mode must be used to reduce parent sightings.
- Before each chimney entry, a rapid rooftop size-up (RRU: Roof, Reductions, Utilities) will be conducted by Santa and chimney integrity tested if required. Magic miniaturization will be deployed if chimney diameter < Santa BMI profile.
- Prior to placing gifts, validate stocking hang locations and avoid fireplaces still alight. Gifts to be placed as per household SOP.
- Reindeer Support strike teams deployed to 3 polar staging areas to rotate hydration/feeding cycles, maintain hoof-traction for icy roofs, and cooling stations following equatorial trips.

Santa’s rules for a safe night
Before setting out on your worldwide route:
- Always check the sleigh twice. Inspect runners, harnesses, navigation lights, and emergency cocoa reserves. A smooth ride starts with solid gear.
- Keep an eye on the weather. Blizzards, ice, fog, and rooftop turbulence can sneak up fast. Adjust your flight path early and keep Rudolph’s nose calibrated.
- Practice chimney awareness by assessing stability and watching for active fireplaces.
- Manage your fatigue. You may have one night to deliver it all, but take breaks, drink as much milk as you want, and let the reindeer rest in rotational shifts.
- Avoid household hazards like rooftop ice, power lines, drones, and watch out for guard dogs (and cats).
- Maintain clear communications. Stay in touch with the NPEOC and if you experience delays or hazards, report them early so the elves can adjust the timeline.
- Keep spirits bright. A calm, cheerful Santa makes better decisions. Deep breath in… ho-ho-ho out.
Remember, Safe Sleigh, Safe Day. The magic works best when safety comes first. Deliver joy safely, smoothly, and with zero chimney incidents.
